15 Hidden Gardens in New York City

It is the secret gardens that appeal. While the big parks and gardens of NYC may be it’s lungs, it’s the tiny pocket size gardens that can be compared to the alveoli in the respiratory system. They provide a welcome respite from the noise and congestion of the city when we discover them, quite unexpectedly, among the asphalt and high rises.

1. Randall’s Island Urban Garden

This is one place in NYC where you can see rice growing. It’s a sustainable farm and outdoor classroom where kids can experience agriculture in an urban setting complete with chickens and apple orchard. You can visit the farm through the Randall’s island Edible Education Program or during Exploration Days in the summer when the park is open to the public – just check the website for times.
