Best Hiking Trails In and Around Phoenix

Papago Park, Double Butte Loop and Hole in the Rock Trail

This amazing park has the most extraordinary sandstone buttes which make you gasp at the beauty. The buttes are massive and change in color from red to brown to orange to gold as the sun shifts in the sky. The walking here is easy and mostly flat, making the park a perfect place for families. You will walk through Sonoran Desert habitat and see gorgeous cactus along the way. You can explore the buttes on the dirt loop trail that begins in the West Park parking area. Once you’ve walked and photographed, make your way (drive) to the rocky stairs n the east side to see the cave-like Hole in the Rock. Here you will have amazing views of not only an oasis but Phoenix city too. Papago Park is just ten minutes out of downtown Phoenix – you do not need any excuse to go! The loop is 2.3 miles and the extra bit to the cave is 825 feet.
