Jim Manzolillo sailed around the world seven times at the time of his retirement. These voyages were used to buy model ships at different ports and bring them back to Houston. In the late 1990s, he opened the Houston Maritime Museum using the artifacts he acquired through his voyages. The artifacts on hand have items for enthusiasts of all kinds. Although Jim Manzolillo passed away 2007 the museum has continued to prosper. This space is definitely worth visiting if you’re from out of town, as you’ll get a history lesson on Houston maritime traditions and global artifacts.
