This Friday, enjoy an evening of mid-century pop culture! The Late Night Talk will feature Yesterday’s Tomorrows, at 7:00 pm in the Horchow Auditorium. Dr. Elizabeth Guffey, Professor of Art History at Purchase College and author of Retro: The Culture of Revival and Crafting Yesterday’s Tomorrows: Retro-Futurism, Steampunk, and the Problem of Making in the Twenty-First Century. Main Stage music will be provided by the Dallas-based band The Hip Van Winkles from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Atrium. There will also be a retro double feature in the Horchow Auditorium. 8:30 pm will be “Hairspray”, (2007) musical revamp of John Waters’ 1988 film; and 10:30 pm will be “Cry-Baby”, (1990) a campy cult film starring a young Johnny Depp, (rated PG-13). Finally, join a quote-along screening of The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones (1987) at 6:30 pm in the C3 Theater. This event is $15.00 per person and is free for kids 11 and younger.

On one Friday each month, join this kids night out program to learn about the components of a full dinner, including meal planning (made from scratch appetizer or side, main dish, drink, and dessert), cooking, setting the table, good manners, kitchen safety, and activities. Admission is $38.00 per child.

Calling all fishermen (and women) ages 16 and younger! Bring your poles, bait, and your skills for an event of fishing fun. Check in begins at 5:00 pm. Trophies and prizes will be given for each age group! Don’t have a fishing pole? No worries. You can borrow one from the Hurst Public Library. All you need is your library card. Library staff will also be on-site event day to lend a pole to those in need. Availability is limited. This event is free, but pre-registration is a must. Register at the Hurst Recreation Center (700 Mary Drive). Space is limited.

On Saturday, September 16th, hit the West Dallas streets to find artists, artisans and creative businesses who will open their doors to the public for a day of exploration, art, and community-building fun. The event culminates in a celebratory reception at the art studio of Julia Ousley where guests will enjoy live music and more art. Light fare will be provided by 3015 at Trinity Groves and beer provided by Brooklyn Brewery. The event is free and is open to creative minds.

Come on out to the NRH Centre Family Movie Night on Saturday, September 16th at the NRH Centre Plaza. The family movie “The Boss Baby” will be shown and the event is free and for all ages. Bring your chairs, blankets, and snacks. Concessions will be available for purchase. In case of inclement weather, the movie will be shown inside in the gym. This event is free to attend.
