Trick or treating, costume contests, scavenger hunts, concerts, parades…Columbus has it all, and most of them are free. So get the kids and dogs dressed up and enjoy Funtober.


Old Hilliard Halloween Haunt

About: Trick-or-treating, a scavenger hunt, kid, and dog costume contest and family fun activities make for a few hours of fun at the park. Events will also take place along Main Street in Old Hilliard, from Peace and Good Things at 4143 Main St. to Heartland Bank at 3971 Main St.

When: Saturday October 20 from 10:00 am to 12:00

Trick or Treat Trail at Gallant Woods

About: Gather treats from characters along the s-p-o-o-k-y trail, decorate pumpkins, enjoy a hayride, and vote for your favorite scarecrow at the park. Either visit Gallant Farm on the same property before or after the trail event (the farm is open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm) and includes a farmhouse with period furnishings, a barn with historic 1890s timbers, a granary, machine shed and barnyard, demonstration crop fields, vegetable garden, orchard, and pond. Visitors encounter costumed interpreters completing their daily chores — plowing the fields, tending the garden, or cooking on a wood-burning stove.

Creepside Festival

About: The annual family-friendly event at Creekside Park and Plaza will feature activities, games, trick or treating, plus live music.  There will be escape rooms, inflatables, and a not-so-scary trail.

About: Let the kids dress up in Halloween costume and bring them to meet Superheroes throughout the zoo as well as stop off at Candy stations located around the attraction. The staff will all be dressed up for a “merry-not-scary” good time and the animals will all be given pumpkin treats so you can watch ‘em smash ‘em, eat ‘em and even burrow inside ‘em to make their own cute dens.

Catch the Pumpkin Junction, Animals on Safari, and HOWL-OWEEN Show.

HalleBOOia! Halloween Concert

About:  Students vocalists and instrumentalists of Ohio State University will be dressed in full Halloween attire for this popular concert featuring movie and TV themes, contemporary pop, folk music, spoofs on classical motifs, choral and chamber arrangements by a number of students and faculty members. Come as you are or in Halloween costume.

North Market Halloween Family Funday

About: North Market has fun Halloween activities lined up for the last Sunday of October. There will be trick or treating, music, crafts, Sunshine Farms with a petting zoo, face painters, and games.

Boo ‘N Brew at Polaris Fashion Place

About: Every Saturday in October there will be a Fall Festival with beer garden and family-friendly activities throughout the lifestyle center. Expect costume contests, trick-or-treating, live music, and parades. These are the bands lined up:

Oct 13 The Reaganomics, Oct 20 Shucking Bubba, Oct 27 Agent 99. The Kidx Club Craft Zone, Paulette’s Princesses, Lazer Kraze Laser Tag, and airbrush tattoos should keep the kids happy.

Halloween Pet Parade and Fall Festival

About:  Dress up your pets and bring them down to the annual Pet Parade and Fall Festival. Costumes will be judged and awards are given based on the following categories: Best Group, Best Duo, Cutest, Funniest, Most Creative, and Scariest. Registration is at 12:00 noon and the Pet Parade starts at 2:00 pm on Fenlon Avenue, and continues through the North District. There will be activities for the kids too.

When: Sunday October 21 between 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm.

Trick or Treating at Prairie Township Community Center

About: Dress up in Halloween outfits for this safe trick or treating event when local businesses will come along to distribute candy to little goblins, witches, and friends.

When: October 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

The Facebook page for each center will have up to date information on events planned for Halloween.  Most have dress up events and trick or treating at the centers.


Pets On Lane Fall Event (Upper Arlington)

About:  The event will take place outside the Mutts & Co. Upper Arlington store where there will be pet-related vendors will be on hand with information and giveaways. Pet rescues will have adoptable animals for meet and greets. A pets costume contest will be held to crown the Cutest, Most Original and Best Costume of the day – all participants get a Free Wag Bag and winners get Mutts & Co. Gift Cards. The Shops on Lane Avenue center will have special sales all day.
