Atlanta offers some spectacular light shows on nearby ranches and resorts, plus some epic experiences right in town at the Botanical Gardens and Life University.
About: The show gets better each year and this year the Skylights Lounge in the Skyline Garden debuts. There will be several larger-than-life plant giants from Imaginary Worlds: Once Upon a Time that will be awash in the holiday glow. Don’t miss the Ice Goddess and Tunnel of Light, along with the Orchestral Orbs, Radiant Rainforest, Model Trains, and other favorites. Nature’s Wonders is back with 1,600 strands of 70, 000 color changing LED lights hanging above the Canopy Walk. The show is choreographed to music and motion scenes that include the Northern lights, a storm at sea, a gentle snowfall and more.
When: December 1 to January 6 (starts November 17)
Cost: Regular nights $24.95 per adult, $21.95 per child, kids under 3 free. Premium nights close to the Christmas holidays cost $39.95 per adult and $36.95 per child, kids under 3 free.
About: As a gift to the local community LIFE introduced the Lights of LIFE in 1989, and the event has since grown to attract half a million visitors each season who come to drive along the 1.5 miles of the campus which are lit up with more than one million LED bulbs in spectacular arrangements. Along the way you can stop at various spots – Santa Claus will be visiting on weekends for photographs, pony rides are available at $5 per rider, train rides at $3 per rider and the petting zoo at $3 per person will return this year. The concession stand will have seasonal drinks and snacks for purchase. This is the most affordable lights display in the area as it is operated as a zero-profit organization with fees going to offset electricity and maintenance costs of the display.
When: December 1-31 (starts November 22). The display opens at dark every night and runs until 9:00 pm Sunday through Thursday and 10:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Cost: $5 per car Monday through Thursday, $10 per car on Friday through Sunday, as well as November 22-25 and December 14-31.
