10 Best Holiday Lights around Washington DC you must see!

 Resorts, public buildings, private homes, zoos, and botanic gardens provide a wealth of lights and animated displays to enable you to take the kids on a number of holiday light viewing excursions. Why miss out on any of these stunning light displays – after all it’s only once a year that the festive season comes around and most of them are free!

Zoo Lights at National Zoo

About:  See half a million enviro-friendly LED lights animated to music in fantastic displays, as well as lights winding up tree branches to create canopies of light. Enjoy hot chocolate, coffee and eggnog as well as s’mores and holiday cookies while your mind engages with the stunning light displays. There are also live music performances. Part of the Smithsonian Institution the zoo does not charge for admission.

When: November 23 to January 1. Closed December 24, 25, and 31. Zoolights are on between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm.

Gaylord National Resort

About:  The premier waterfront resort will once again transform into an unrivaled winter wonderland, called Christmas on the Potomac, presented by Pepsi. The hotel has a Christmas Village, complete with Santa, Mrs. Claus, ice-skating, gingerbread decorating and more, plus a 55-foot suspended Christmas tree; 2 million twinkling holiday lights, and a magical indoor snowfall in its stunning 19-story glass atrium. It also will include the holiday showstopper ICE! – a chilly, nine-degree walk-through event that brings Christmas alive via 2 million pounds of colorful carved ice sculptures with this year’s theme being A Charlie Brown Christmas. There is a two-story ice slide to enjoy among other activities. The Cirque Dreams Unwrapped Show takes place in the Atrium. There are some limited free seats available but it’s best to purchase tickets.
