What makes the places on this list unique? It’s the location, the attitude of the owners, the commitment to pure food without all the nasty additives, creativity in the presentation, or simply frozen treats that are a little different like paletas, Hong Kong waffles, or genuine Italian gelato.
Located in the Pearl Brewery, Lick produces frozen treats using ‘honest’ ingredients, meaning no added preservatives, artificial colorants, flavorings, or high fructose corn syrup. The syrups, cookies, marshmallows, sauces, cakes, and even the waffle cones are made on site, so they know exactly what has gone into them. The cream and milk is sourced from a local family owned dairy and the seasons inspire their flavorings– so look out for flavors like Roasted Beet and Fresh Mint, Hill Country Honey and Vanilla Bean, and Ranch Road, that contains their house made vanilla marshmallows, toasted salted pecans and malted chocolate ice cream. For vegans the standouts are the Peaches and Coconut Cream made with local peaches and coconut milk; the Chocolate Chocolate – dark chocolate coconut ice cream with swirls of chocolate sauce and the Black Sesame Black Rice with its sweet nutty coconut flavor. When they go as far as using compostable cups, spoons and napkins then you know you’re in for a sustainable treat.
When: Open Sunday to Thursday from 11:30 am to 10:00 pm.
