1. Balboa Island – Newport Beach
Give the kids the fun of a 5-minute ferry ride to cross to Balboa Island, Newport Beach – or you can drive across. Kids will probably want to get to the water first – swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, and even parasailing for the brave. Later stroll down Marine Avenue for a chance to stop at a restaurant. While you are there try the famous chocolate covered frozen bananas! And if the kids still have energy let them experience the Balboa Fun Zone with its arcade games and Ferris wheel.

where you can float over the beautiful vineyards and estates. Once back on the ground visit a couple of estates for some tastings and perhaps lunch –try Monte de Ora or Wilson Creek Winery. The Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve is popular for viewing wildlife, and hiking trails. Maybe take in Vail Lake Resort, situated on 11,000 acres and reputedly the best largemouth bass lake in California. In town take the kids to Pennypickles Workshop – the Children’s Museum where they can discover science through play.
