Fantastic Festivals and Shows in Phoenix in November 2018

 

Phoenix in November has plenty of artists dropping in on their US tours – like Twenty One Pilots and Justin Timberlake, some traditional festive shows like Elf and The Nutcracker as well as holiday markets and light displays to make sure it is an active and fun month. And there is even a festival for dogs – don’t miss the dock diving!

Glendale Glitters

About:  Sixteen blocks of Historic Downtown Glendale will have a stunning display of 1.6 million LED lights, making it the largest free holiday light display in Arizona. This year, the 25th Anniversary of Glendale Glitters, the Countdown to Glendale Glitters Show starts at 5:30 on Friday, November 23, then at 6:00 p.m. Glendale’s Mayor and Council members will light up the downtown area for the 2018 season. Downtown stores and restaurants will be open so you can stop to shop or relax with a meal between viewing the lights.

When: Friday and Saturday November 17-18 6:pm or Friday. The lights will be on nightly between 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm nightly until January 5 2019.

Mariachi Festival

About: The 3rd Annual Phoenix Mariachi Festival hosts Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan and their international Ballet Folklorico. This festival will also include performances from other amazing soloists and international mariachis, all hosted by Jose Armando Ronstadt.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert

About: A live score performed by the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra will accompany the screening of the movie. With the Dementors guarding Hogwarts against escaped convict Sirius Black, who has sworn to kill The Boy Who Lived, Ron and Hermione, with the help of Professor Lupin, the new teacher, help Harry find out that Sirius’ story is deeper than one first thought.

When: Friday to Sunday November 23-25.

Family Fun Harvest Festival

About:  The festival happens inside Odysea in the Desert. The live band will take centre stage, while the kids get involved in decorating pumpkins, bounce in the bounce houses, get their face painted, and enter fun contests for prizes. Shopping from our various local vendors, and a variety of restaurants will have various types of cuisines available. Special character guests will appear to add to the fun. The event is free but if you REGISTER online for your free ticket and take it with you to the festival, you’ll be entered into the Family Fun Arizona Giveaway Drawings with a number of prizes up for grabs ranging from Odysea Attraction Tickets and Family Vacations to Restaurant Gift Cards and more. ONE ENTRY PER PERSON.

The Day of the Dog

About:  With events including running of the bulls (French and English bulldog races) wiener dog races, a puppy stampede and a Scottsdale exclusive – chihuahua races, this is one event you don’t want to miss. Make sure you enter your pet into one of the races. The dock diving championships are going to be a lot of fun with a special 30-foot pool set up in the middle of the city so the pooches can show off their skills, you can enter your pet too! This is a pet-friendly event with veterinarians at the show in case you have questions, many exhibitors with the latest in pet products, food and beverage vendors, and there is even an omelette bar – for dogs!

When: Saturday and Sunday November 17-18 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

ArtFest of Scottsdale

About:  ArtFest of Scottsdale is known for cutting-edge contemporary art, and in the Downtown Scottsdale area, you will see the work of around 150 artists from across the country. Live music throughout the festival lends an air of festivity as you browse fine art and crafts, and the foods in the relaxing sculpture garden setting. Hands-on kids’ activities will keep youngsters busy.

Twenty One Pilots

About: American duo Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun formed Twenty One Pilots while at college and began to put out their own records before being signed in 2013 by Pete Wentz for his Fueled By Ramen label. In 2016 they won a Billboard Music Award for Top Rock Album, Blurryface. Then they won a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group performance in 2017 with Stressed Out, and that’s to mention only two of their 31 awards! Catch them when their Bandito Tour comes to Denver.

8 39th Wickenburg Bluegrass Fest

About:  The festival and fiddle championship will feature a number of bands – the line up is still to be announced but Old Blue Band and Mountain Heart, as well as TBA band, will be there. Watch contestants compete in 10 categories for prizes and cash awards including Open Fiddle, Mandolin, Flat Pick Guitar, and Banjo. The kids’ area will feature activities and bounce houses and will be open from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. There will be food vendors and arts and crafts for sale.

When: Friday November 9 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Justin Timberlake

About:  Justin Timberlake became a teen idol when he headed pop-powerhouse NSYNC. Now, as a solo performer, he has hit it big with songs like Cry Me a River, Like I Love You, and Rock Your Body. His Man of the Woods Tour has some incredible special effects.

Elf

About: Buddy the Elf is a human baby that gets into Santa’s present sack and ends up back with Santa and the Elves where he grows up – but he longs to find his real dad and embarks on a journey to find him.  This funny and heartwarming show will have audiences enthralled.

Celtic Thunder

About:  Celtic Thunder, the all-male singing group from Ireland, perform both solo and ensemble numbers and have certainly garnered many fans since their debut in 2007. They now bring their talents to the US on their X tour. Celtic Thunder was conceived by Sharon Browne and written, arranged by Phil Coulter and designed as a contemporary exploration of Celtic music, which means it falls to the pop-dance side of the spectrum more than it does to the traditional side. Accompanied by the Celtic Concert Orchestra under the direction of David Munro, the musical director of the group, Celtic Thunder has become a household name all around the world with live shows known for dramatic lighting and choreography as well as realistic Irish stage sets with authentic Irish instruments.

A Magical Cirque Christmas

Ballet Etudes: The Nutcracker

About:  Ballet Etudes presents its 32nd annual production of The Nutcracker this year. Let Clara’s magical journey as she encounters life-size mice, swirling snowflakes, dancing confections, and the Sugar Plum Fairy, will enthral audiences. The show has colourful and imaginative costumes paired with Tchaikovsky’s original score and is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season with the entire family. Backstage tours are offered following most performances.

Christmas Lights at Goodyear Ball Park

About:  Christmas in Color is a spectacular drive-thru lights display with more than 1.5 million LED lights.  The show is fully animated and synchronized to upbeat holiday music, transforming areas around the ballpark. Allow 30 minutes to enjoy the entire display. Time slots are sold for 30-minute increments.  You can arrive anytime within the purchased 30-minute time period if you arrive outside of your purchased time slot the organizers cannot guarantee you admission.

About:  This is just the show to inspire youngsters interested in dance. Following the continued success of the hit summer competition series and 15 Emmy® wins, So You Think You Can Dance is taking the Top 10 Finalists of the 2018 season and touring the country with: Hanalei Cabanilla, Jay Jay Dixonbey, Chelsea Hough, Evan Debendedetto, Genessy Castillo, Cole Mills, Darius Hickman, Madalena Fialek, Slavic Pustovoytov and Jensen Arnold, including Season 15’s winner, America’s Favorite Dancer, plus some soon to be announced All-Star guests.
