Des Plaines River Trail

Des Plaines River Trail is a recently concluded multi-use trail that runs by the namesake river. It goes through 12 forest preserves. You will pass through asphalt, crushed stone, dirt, and gravel.

As you head South, you will start by seeing prairies and savannas and, further on, the river narrows and woodlands will show themselves. If you are lucky, you will see beavers, herons, other birds, turtles, deer, and snakes. It is suitable for hiking, biking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Bring your dog as long as he is on leash!

Deer Grove Trails

Deer Grove is a preserve with 1,800 acres! It includes wetlands, with turtles, frogs, and salamanders, upland forest, woodlands, savannas, and prairies. There is a lot of diversity for you to explore! There are a total of 16.1 miles of different trails at the preserve, both paved and unpaved. These are not only great for hiking but also for biking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, inline skating, and sledding. Besides those, you may enjoy birdwatching and fishing there! You may need several trips to get to know Deer Grove.
