Distance: 1 mile
The Blue Hills Reservation is just minutes from Boston’s city center and stretches over 7,000 acres from Quincy to Dedham and Milton to Randolph. This reservation is the most magnificent oasis in an urban landscape with parkland, forest, marsh and swamp, meadows, astonishing birdlife and maybe also the Timber Rattlesnake. The Great Blue Hill reaches 635 feet, being the highest of the Blue Hill Chain. The trail can get steep and rocky so you do need good shoes but you don’t have to be experienced to do it. Pick up a trails map at the Trailside Museum which is where the trail begins. Once at the top you have stunning views of Boston. There are many trails in the reservation, some leading you to old ruins when Native American still lived here.
