About: PAL (Police Activities League) Programs are free and open to all youth ages 6 – 17 living or attending school in Santa Monica. The range of activities is quite extensive – for example there is the Cirque Du Monde Program, in partnership with Cirque du Soleil, it’s a program that enables young people to learn unique skills such as juggling, walking a tight rope, diablo, balancing plates, clowning, stilt walking, gymnastics and more. PAL youth can experience positive personal growth as well increase their self-confidence and their sense of personal identity through this program or the Karate Program under the tutelage of Master Robert Temple and range from beginner to more experienced classes. Then there are the boxing classes and sports strength training which will help in soccer, basketball, baseball and most other sports. Named after local restaurateur Fred Deni, the Culinary Program instructs older youth ages 13 and up on the fine art of food preparation. The youth learn to skillfully prepare meals and build their knowledge of nutrition and kitchen safety. Local restaurants and chefs have opened their kitchens and shared their recipes to the program and have been instrumental in exposing youth to the world of culinary arts.
