Family Art Project: Freedom Quilting Bee

Family Art Project: Freedom Quilting Bee is an inspiring event that will take place at the Wave Hill, West 249th Street and Independence Avenue, Bronx on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Guess who passed by the Gee’s Bend Community in rural Alabama back in 1966, it was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who visited and the Freedom Quilting Bee was established there to honor him. These quilts have been famous now for quite some time and they would later go on to fund aspects of the community’s freedom. You and your kids can come along to create your own brilliant, improvisational compositions out of plentiful squares of donated fabric, and experience the joy contributing and to honor Dr. King’s birthday and the inspiring women quilters of Gee’s Bend. Kids of the age 2 and up are welcome; the entry is free for all.
