Saturday, September 21, 2019, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at
In recognition of the United Nations General Assembly and International Peace Day, visitors are invited to design and fly kites selecting stripes, colours, and symbols that represent personal ideas about peace and freedom. Visitors of all ages will discover the fun of constructing and flying their very own kite, guaranteed to soar in the lightest of winds. Kite-making workshops are free and suitable for all ages. This event coincides with Roosevelt Island’s Fall for Arts Festival, an annual celebration of art and autumn, featuring live mural painting and other fun, family-friendly activities throughout the island. Storytime Sessions with The Roosevelt Island Branch Library – The Roosevelt Island Branch Library will host storytime sessions at 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, and 2:00 pm. Join one of our favourite librarians, Jennifer Minehardt, as she reads books about peace and human rights, plays games, and offer fun giveaways. Letters of Gratitude – Share your messages of gratitude with Deployed Troops, Veterans, New Recruits & First Responders at our special letter-writing station. All activities are free; registration for kite-making workshops is recommended. Registration helps them determine how many supplies to order. Kites will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
