Medical Coding is a task in which the healthcare services provided by a Doctor/Hospital, their procedures, medications, etc. are transformed into alphanumeric digits. The Medical coders need to function admirably with numbers. They need to review, process and file the claims. It is their job to see that a claim is correctly filled and is reimbursed by the insurance companies. A medical biller uses the information from the coder to create a claim, or bill, for services rendered. A medical coder and biller may be two different individuals, they might also be the same person. In either, the medical coder and biller need to work together to avoid the declination of a claim.
The minimum degree to pursue a Medical Coder/biller certification is a High School diploma. Anyone with a High school diploma or higher education can register themselves for the various options of a Medical Coder/ biller certifications.

The AAPC’s Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam is the gold standard of coding certifications. The CPC exam is recommended for individuals who have already started their coding career. In order to complete a CPC certification, you must become a member of the AAPC. Certification is also limited to coders with two years of professional experience or those willing to complete an apprentice program.
An overall score of 70% or higher is required to pass an exam. For examinees who do not pass, only the areas of study/categories with a score of 65% or less are provided for examinees’ preparation.
