Tennessee Valley Trailhead, Marin Country
There are lots of hiking trails in this beautiful park. The Tennessee Valley is an offshoot of the Marin Headlands and is stunningly beautiful, hills, valleys, ocean views. The Tennessee Valley Trail is the ideal for families or young children, just 1.7 miles each way, leading down to Tennessee Beach. In spring the wildflowers are amazing, including the Californian buttercup and Californian poppy. In summer the grasses are golden and the vegetation changes completely to include sagebrush, blackberry bushes, and the sticky monkey flower. And in winter the rain turns the golden park into miles and miles of green. There is so much space and so many gorgeous views you would be forgiven for thinking that San Francisco is miles away. It isn’t, this park is just 12.5 miles out of the city. Try and go during the low tide to see the shipwrecked SS Tennessee. Take water, snacks and a change of clothing, as well as good protection against the sun. No dogs are allowed but you may well see horses.
Hike distance is 3.4 miles.
