The MIT Museum’s Friday After Thanksgiving (F.A.T.) Chain Reaction is a one-of-a-kind engineering feat that must be seen to be believed! This year’s theme is “Twice (2x) As Nice” for the 20th chain reaction, and artists Arthur Ganson and Jeff Lieberman will once again mastermind the choreography of this Rube Goldberg machine. Spectators can meet the team members and engage in themed hands-on activities while waiting for the magic moment when all the devices are linked up to set off a chain reaction with a surprise ending. Chain reaction tickets will be $15 for adults, and $5 for youth, students, seniors, MIT ID holders, and active military personnel and free for children under 5 are free.

Your family will love the Train to Christmas Town as it captures the spirit of the season with its warmth and charm. You can feel the holiday magic in the air the moment you arrive. The music begins as you depart the station and you’ll be clapping along the way and elves will be dancing in the aisles leading sing-alongs with favorite Christmas songs. The moment you hear the song “Chocolate Christmas” being played, cookies and hot chocolate will be served. At the Christmas Town wave to Santa and his elves before they climb aboard to greet each boy and girl and present them with a special gift. All guests will enjoy many activities and games on board as they interact with the cast and crew. Kids will be able to play a game of I-Spy as they look for animal friends hidden throughout the car like the gentle snowy owls, Squeek the chatty mice that frequent the train. Everyone is welcome to hop aboard to try this new experience and continue the holiday tradition of Christmas and Santa on the train. Everyone is encouraged everyone to get into the festive spirit by wearing Christmas themed outfits. Tickets start at $34.

The Annual Festival of Trees and Snow Village is a magical holiday event for the whole family. Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s Festival of Trees showcases dozens of trees and the Snow Village at Elm Bank for children and adults to enjoy. The Festival of Trees will have beautifully decorated holiday trees that are donated and decorated by local businesses, garden clubs, and individuals, visitors get a chance to win a tree at the end of the festival with their raffle tickets. Families can also enjoy the decorated buildings and grounds at The Gardens at Elm Bank with a stroll or a horse-drawn wagon ride. There are Santa Visits and other activities for the little ones. Snow Village at Elm Bank is a wonderful addition to the holiday spirit of the Festival of Trees. The enchanting displays with model trains winding through villages and vignettes, including Christmas in the City, Fenway Park, and hundreds of decorated houses and lights with amazing scenery in miniature set up is sure to excite kids of all ages this holiday season. Admission is $10 per person, free for children 11 and under and $8 for Mass Hort members.
