Free Sundays at Columbus Museum of Art

Butch Bandos Fantasy of Lights

The Fantasy of Lights is a 3-mile drive-thru holiday light show that is fun for people of all ages and affordable for the entire family! This year the entire show has been updated to LED lights! The show benefits Recreation Unlimited and A Kid Again as well as other local organizations. The Santa House with free hot chocolate and cookies will be held at Cross Creek Camping Resort, which is 30 seconds down the street from Butch Bando’s Fantasy of Lights. A carload will run you $20.00 from Monday through Thursday, $30.00 on weekends. Larger vans will be $30.00 to $60.00, and busses and coaches will be $100.00.

WildLights at the Columbus Zoo

It’s beginning to look a lot like Wildlights season at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium! This year marks the 29th Wildlights season with more holiday cheer than ever before. The entire Zoo will be transformed into a winter wonderland covered in millions of LED lights. Some of this year’s main Wildlights attractions include: Animated light shows, located around Conservation Lake and at Shores Park, Holiday Star Light Star Bright Seek-n-Find, brought to you by Disney On Ice presents Reach for the Stars, with new winners and magical prizes each week, Santa’s Holiday Home in its new location in North America at the Battelle Ice Bear Outpost! Guests can spend time with Santa and can also enjoy holiday sweets with Mrs. Claus at her kitchen in Conservation Courtyard, Wildlights rides, including the Polar Bear Express, a train ride through the North America winter wonderland; camel rides located in the North America region; and the 1914 Mangels-Illions Carousel, a historic Central Ohio treasure located near the Columbus Dispatch Charities Grand Pavilion, and Meet and Greets with Rudolph and Friends. Be sure to bring your camera as the most favorite reindeer of all, Rudolph, and the lovable abominable snow monster, Bumble, join us at Wildlights this year to create even more magical memories. You can also catch Rudolph and his friends on the big screen at the Shores Play Park 4-D Theater in the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 4-D Theater Experience. Holiday Lights

Enjoy the festive lights at Columbus Commons! Stop by after a Downtown dinner to see more than 320,000 LED lights dazzle in the park, thanks to a generous contribution from American Electric Power. Get an extra dose of holiday spirit by walking across High Street to check out the displays in the Lazarus Building windows just west of the park at the corner of High and Town Streets. Beginning December 2nd, Scioto Mile will also be decked out for the holidays so be sure to walk over and see the sparkling lights along the riverfront. This event is free to attend.

Thomas and Friends Exhibit

The world’s most beloved blue engine has rolled into COSI! Thomas & Friends: Explore the Rails! is an interactive exhibit inspired by the popular PBS KIDS children’s series. Explore the Island of Sodor, where you can climb into Thomas’ cab, fix Percy’s wobbly wheels, load luggage, and livestock, and suit up as a conductor. The exhibit incorporates foundational STEM practices that encourage mathematical thinking, problem-solving, and creative thinking. This event is free to attend.

Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival

A glowing tradition, lantern festivals light up the skies of China every Lunar New Year, marking the return of the spring season and symbolizing the reuniting of family. Its colorful displays of floating, fiery lanterns has brought tourists from around the world, and now Columbus takes this beloved festival to the Ohio Expo Center and State Fairground for a memorable cultural experience. At the Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival, artisans from Sichuan and Zigong will showcase ornate handicrafts including palm leaf weaving, sugar painting and Shu embroidery. 39 illuminated lanterns will also be on display, along with nightly cultural performances to truly immerse yourself in this experience. Don’t forget to satisfy your appetite with Chinese and traditional fair food and beverages. Admission is $10.00 for adults 13 through 59, $8.00 for children ages 5 through 12, and free for children under 5.

Gingerbread Competition

These gingerbread houses are sure to be out of this world. The season of competitive gingerbread design is upon us and this year’s theme is Holiday Traditions. Prizes valuing a total of more than $1,500 are on the line for the 11th annual Gingerbread Competition, with the edible artwork on public display from until early January. Come see the submissions all on display, and visitors will be offered a chance to vote for Best in Show all month long. The house with the most votes will be awarded a $500 cash prize. Special guest judges will name 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in all four categories: youth (12 and under), teen (13-17), adult (18+) and family. Be sure to cast your vote for your favorite! This display is part of general admission, which is $14.00 per person.
