The “Rotunda Dance Series” features dance performances in San Francisco City Hall’s extraordinary rotunda! Set amidst the grandeur of San Francisco City Hall’s Rotunda, these free lunchtime presentations bring dance forms from across the globe to this magnificent venue. All performances are free and start at noon. In the culminating performance of the 2017 season of the Rotunda Dance Series, Nicaragua Danza, Hijos del Maíz presents dances from the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of Nicaragua. A set of marimba dances will be performed in celebration of the city of Masaya, known as “The Cradle of Nicaraguan Folklore” for its abundance of cultural activity. Next, they will introduce their latest work Cultura Garífona. Representing the Autonomous Region of the South Atlantic of Nicaragua, Cultura Garífona honors the cultural identity, language, dance and music of the Island Carib, Arawak indigenous people, and Africans who were brought to the Americas and enslaved. This event is free to attend.
