Emperor Norton’s Fantastic San Francisco Waterfront Tour

Ready for the wackiest tour of San Fran that you’ve ever had? Take a tour through San Francisco’s waterfront history alongside one of its most colorful characters. Emperor Norton was a prominent businessman who lost everything on a bad investment. Instead of throwing in the towel, he responded to his failure by declaring himself “Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico.” San Francisco embraced this quirky character, treating him as royalty and even accepting his self-created currency. Tour guide Joseph Amster incorporates his journalistic and acting talents to provide a one-of-a-kind tour in which he takes on the persona of Emperor Norton and introduces you to the history of the city’s most unique and interesting sites through the eyes of this larger-than-life unofficial mascot. Over the course of just under three hours, you’ll cover about two miles along the waterfront, from the historic Ferry Building to The Cannery. Tickets are $10.00 per person.

Sunday, December 24th, 2017 at 11:00 am at San Francisco Ferry Building, 1 Ferry Building, San Francisco.

Reflecting Pool

In an extended run by popular demand, experience Reflecting Pool: an interactive artwork that generates ever-changing images that emerge from video feedback and respond to slow, Tai Chi-style motions. Hold both hands, palms down, about two feet above the gesture sensor. Tilt your hands to zoom in, or move them sideways to rotate the kaleidoscope. Moving one hand up and other down creates swirls; two fists reset the image. From time to time, rest your hands at your sides to allow the pool to settle and images to form! This exhibit is free with paid admission, which is $29.95 for adults, $24.95 for ages 13 to 17, $19.95 for ages 3 to 12, and free for those under 3.

Friday, December 22nd, 2017 through Monday, December 25th, 2017 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Exploratorium, Pier 15 Embarcadero at Green St, San Francisco.
