The list includes mainly natural attractions around San Francisco so there is a combination of exercise and adventure topped off with a great meal to make mom’s day a special one the whole family can enjoy. Of course, we had to throw in a couple of little indulgences for mom only – she’s worth it!

Half Moon Bay for hiking, redwoods, and Sam’s Chowder House

When you have had enough of the big city escape to Half Moon Bay to a gentler time in this primarily agricultural community. Visit the Farmers market, shops, and restaurants – it just a 45-minute drive out of San Francisco. The average height of the redwoods in this area is 250 feet tall. There are 80 miles of hiking trails and no less than 8 surf sports in the area – so it is truly a place where everyone in the family can find something of interest. While you are there visit Sam’s Chowder House, the clam chowder and lobster have a great reputation. NBC’s Today Show named their lobster sandwich of the best five in America and they have a number of other accolades.
